Should I buy a Ranger?
Hey everyone, my name is Dan and I have a question. I have the opportunity to buy a Ranger, and wanted to get some opinions. The truck is a 98 extended cab, with the step side bed. 4.0 6 cylinder with a 5 speed manual. 158,000 miles. It's all stock. My only real concern is it's 2wd. I've never owned a ranger and would be using it for a once a week 120 mile round trip commute. Seller wants $1000. What do you think? What would you do as far as upgrades? I'm thinking upgrading to some nice winter tires and getting rid of the tape deck to start. Thanks everyone. Looking forward to being part of this forum.

For $1000 why not. 5 speed and a 4.0 should be fun

Re: Should I buy a Ranger?
Coming to a Ranger forum and asking if you should buy a Ranger is like going to a meth forum and asking if you should do some meth.
If you're asking here, then you obviously want it and just want us to tell you to go for it.
So, yeah, go for it.

Not a bad buy for $1000 if it runs well. Go for it, it'll grow on you.

Re: Should I buy a Ranger?
Price is good. 4.0 is thirsty but if your primary use is 120 miles a week it shouldn't hurt too bad. You don't need a 4x4 to drive in snow, all you need is a steady right foot.

Re: Should I buy a Ranger?
I have a 98 with 361,000 miles on it and I have no intention of ever selling it. I wouldn't be thrilled with 2WD but for $1,000 I would get over it.

Re: Should I buy a Ranger?
For $1000 if it runs and drives good and needs no major repairs I'd get it
