4" lift 33s change gears?
hey I have recently purchased this truck and the gas millage isnt all that great, I have read several threads, and some have mentioned about changing the gears, I have 33' with a 4" lift right now id like to go to 35s at some point (when I need to get new ones). Can I do that with out loosing tons of power? and will it be better to change the gears and what should I change them to? im pretty sure there stock right now so 4.10? I under stand that since its 4WD I would have to do transfer case too, worth it?

Re: 4" lift 33s change gears?
Welcome! I'd be willing to bet with your truck, you've already got 4:10's. Somewhere on here is a chart with the axlw codes, that will tell you what you have. On the drivers door jamb, there is a sticker with your axle code on it. Just reference it to the chart. I'll see if I can find it for you. Rear Axle Codes / Determine Gear Ratio
Here it is,

Re: 4" lift 33s change gears?
If you change out the gears in you axel on a four wheel drive, you have to change it out in the transfer case too. Other wise it will bind (not mesh togher correctly) so the teas have to match. My question is is it worth it to change them out. I know I would get more power if I did ( not sure about mpg) right now my dad revers to it as driving a boat be Ouse it's kinds slow.

no you don't. you only need to change the axle gear ratios. Don't even need to touch the transfer case

Re: 4" lift 33s change gears?
Ok so if I leave it with the 4.10, what would you suggest on a way to give it a little more power/responsiveness?

Go with 4:56 gears if you plan on sticking with 33s and if you want to upgrade to 35s in the future save some time and money and go with 4:88 the first time.

Re: 4" lift 33s change gears?
Ok so with the 4:56 what is the advantage? And would you know a price range?

You will cause less stress on your transmission and will regain some of the lost power. I honestly have no idea on the price. It will obviously cost less if you can do it yourself instead of having a shop do it.
