Default G'day from downunder

Hey there all, I guess it's about time I introduced myself. I was invited over here from cardomain quite a while ago, signed up but never really went any further. Well here I am, and here's my beast. Sure it's not a Ranger, sorry it's a Mazda BT-50, but there basiacly the same vehicle. Over here in Oz, if you went to either a Ford dealer or Mazda dealer and jumped in a Ranger or BT-50,,, well appart from the badge on the steering wheel you'd be forgiven for thinking your having a moment of De Javous.
I bought my BT50 for my busness in Feb07 when they had just been released here in Australia. I compared the other manufacturers offerings for similar vehicles and nothing even came close to power, comfort and even value for money. Toyota hilux, Mitsubishi Triton and Holden Rodeo (Isuzu-Chev Luv) I didn't like at all, and was $7k more expensive for a run-out model,,, the Nissan wasn't bad, but the price was off the plannet and I'd heard some bad reports on them,,,, but the seats were very uncomfortable so price wasn't the issue there. Ford was still a few months away from their new release, and Mazda won hands down. Turns out Ford ended up with an identical vehicle inside and out appart from the grille bars, rear tub body lenses were coloured instead of the euro look clear that Mazda uses, and of course badging.

I ordered mine as the direct injected 3 litre with an intercooled turbo deisel engine, 5 speed 4x4 manual (stick) transmission. Freestyle (supercab) body on a cab chassis, Alloy tray body with under body toolbox and 15 ltr fresh water tank, ladder racks. 6 speaker surround CD, AM/FM radio, MP3 input, upgraded cloth trim, front bucket seats, centre console and Power steering, air conditioning, power windows, dual safety air bags, and remote keyless entry were standard along with a long list of other standard features. I also opted for the ABS upgrade, got a genuine snorkel, heavy dudy 3.5tonne tow hitch, heavy duty rear leaf kit, tinted windows, weather shields, rubber floor mats, fitted a set of CSA 15" alloy wheels.

I've since fitted a custom alloy bullbar and side protection rails/steps, 220mm Lightforce driving lamps, 40 channel GME 3200? UHF radio, Garmin GPS, Blue tooth phone kit, XL integrated toolbox/service body, and recently fitted a set of 15/31 Maxxis Bighorn Mud terrain tyres. The Bighorns are awsome BTW.

Future plans are for a 3" suspension lift (not body lift), likely have adjustable load assist airbags in the rear, long range fuel tanks, custom exhaust and power chip upgrade and make some mods to the service body so I can fit the 4wheeler bike between the cabinets. ideally I'd like to convert to dual deisel/gas fuel system, but I'm still justifying the expense. Reports of at least 30% fuel savings and 20-30% power gains excite me, but still,,,, the cost of install? Owch!!!

Anyway,,, enuf crap from me for now, have fun now.

Cheers

This is actually a Mazda BT-50, but they're also sold as Ford Ranger here in Oz, pretty much one and the same vehicle from factory, slightly different options from both Ford and Mazda.
