New to the group with a 95' Ford Ranger XLT
Hello,
I am new here and thought i would start off by posting in the Intro section. I am 21 and this is my first truck. my first vehicle was a chevy astro van... haha fun stuff. but for years and years i have always wanted a ranger, and came across a deal i couldnt refuse!! so here i am, a proud owner of a ford ranger! i have had it since november 2013. i stumbled upon this forum while looking for parts and decided to join. anyways enough about me, lets talk about my truck!!
shes a 1995 4-cylinder Ranger XLT with an extended cab. shes a stick shift too! (my first manual vehicle). she has over 260,000 miles, but a rebuilt engine makes her run like a dream! got a great deal on it because of the milage. since i have had it i have bought some shiny new tires, a billet grille, and a Cold air intake, all of which (except tires) i have installed myself. but i am looking to buy some more aftermarket parts to install and make her run even better. thats why im here!! my ranger didnt come with AC, never even had on installed. so i will be modding a small 1,000 BTU AC with a 1,200 watt inverter to get some air, this will be my first personal mod and becasue its my first mod, i will keep you guys here updated on it when i do it. thatll be my next post. so until then! im going to go check out all the other threads on here!!

Welcome. Nice truck. Pretty billet grille. No A/C in CA? Oh, that won't do. :-)
Are you gonna adapt a portable home A/C unit into your truck, and run that on a 1200W power convertor? Really? Assuming it's even possible ... that's 10 amps at 120V!!!! Don't you want a native Ford A/C, by installing the Ranger A/C parts from either a JY or parted-out vehicle?

This AC I'm looking at is actually only 2 amps and 250 watts. I'm getting the larger inverter to compensate for the small motor in the AC when it first starts because will draw more power at first. I would Much rather a natavie AC but don't have the money to pay to get it installed and don't have the time to try it myself. It would run me about $1,500 to $2,300 to get one installed that way. This idea I'm trying will run me about $350-400. So im going to try it out.

Ohh. Good luck, then.
It gets pricey when you won't be installing it yourself. You might get all the JY parts for a whole native setup for under $1K, but never mind.
I'm curious how you'd install that universal A/C gadget of yours. Does it hook up to the Ranger's evaporator core (behind the dashboard), and dump its heat to the outside?

Yeah. If it was a repair that would be different. But because my truck never even had it factory installed I didn't want to mess with it.
Well it's a small 2ft tall by 1ft wide portable AC. I have two ideas on how to do this. It's going to be in the back in the center blowing cold air forward. I'm either going to mount it to a custum windo mount so it will blow the hot air out. Or just mount it to the floor, and make a custom air duct to take the hot air out the back window. I'm just not sure what would work better yet. I'm still waiting for the AC unit to arrive.
