Default New member intro with a sick '02 Ranger

Howdy all. I'm a newbie, and so I'm getting a feel for how active and useful this forum might be. Anybody here?
I currently am doing some research on a problem that appeared overnight with my '02 Ranger XLT. Will start, but won't run. Engine goes to about half throttle for a couple seconds and then dies. I'm thinking that it may be a stuck IAC, but need to find where this is located.

Could be a fuel delivery issue also.

Yeah, my first thought was cold-related fuel delivery so I brought it into the garage overnight. Made a mess on my floor, but didn't solve the problem. It's not totally thawed, but at this point I don't believe it's frozen fuel line. I pulled the IAC to inspect and it seems to be freely moving. Now, I'm wondering how to view any codes that it may be putting out. Does it require a scan tool?

----------

Thanks. It's nice to have this resource. Do you know if it takes a scan tool to view error codes on these trucks?

Yes it does, and can be very helpful if you own 1 for all you vehicles using the OBD2 port.
