Default New guy needing some adivce

Hey everyone new to the Ranger community since I was 16 ive been a part of the euro crowd in socal and mercedes to be specific but lately ive been considering selling my mercedes to buy a truck one because the truck will be newer, less miles, more practical, cheaper to fix when something does break. I just wanted to ask a few questions to people who already own rangers
How reliable are these trucks?
How is gas mileage?
Do you recommend the V6 or V8 model?
and also im probably going to be looking into getting one already equipped with a lift kit although ive heard that they come with torsion bars which can be used to lift it?
and last but not least what should i be looking out for while shopping for one of these?

Thanks

Welcome to FRF!

Very reliable, we have people on here with 200,000+ miles.
MPG, varies, some get high 20s on the 2.3 duratecs, others with lifts and such get in 15s with big wheels and tires. I get 17-20 on my 4.0 V6 with 32s.
Sadly no V8 model from the factory.
If you get a 98+ 4wd or 2wd EDGE/Sport you will have torsion bars, and they can be cranked for 1-2" of lift.

Welcome to FRF! Ford Rangers are more reliable than any vehicle I've ever had.

If you want to lift it I would get a torsion bar ranger as they are higher from the factory, and can be lifted higher.

I've driven both suspension types and I've personally have not noticed any difference in ride quality between the two. Also you can get rid of the torsion bars with a kit like this: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/vendo...rive-edge.html

Just FYI, there are two V6 engines, the 3.0 & the 4.0. The 4.0 has a lot more performance, so unless you're on a serious budget, make sure you get the 4.0.

Also, Rangers come in a 2 door supercab or a 4 door supercab, you might want to consider if it's worth the $$$ to have easier access to the back.

It isn't that bad, but when you crank the t-bars it gets stiffer. If you check the vendor section here there is the Off Road Warehouse Coil-over conversion. That is my current goal, to get that. I have heard it rides like a dream. For the 98+ 4x4, you have the 3" body lift and 4" super lift as far as bolt on kits go, and that is it.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone

Now I understand that the EDGE comes 2" higher than other rangers with torsion bars about how much higher can it be lifted from the stock 2" lift that it comes with?

No, the EDGE is the same height as any t-bar Ranger. It is higher than a 2wd xl or xlt model.
