I have a separate post where I described fabricating seat tracks so that I could put in 2007 Pontiac G6 GT seats in my 2003 Ranger XLT FX4.
here's a picture of those seats installed ... note the center console with the black fabric arm rest.
I went back to the auto recycler and picked up the rear seats from the Pontiac G6 GT so that I could use the leather to reupholster the arm rest on a shorty console. The shorty console was originally a tan color and I dyed it. Unfortunately, the arm rest portion did not turn out as well as I expected.
These two pictures show the seats and armrest all finished up. The armrest is now leather and matches the seats.
I had an upholstery shop do it for me, I am really not skilled in upholstery work. They did a great job and I am quite thrilled with it.
Since this mod, I have also put in an Explorer Overhead Console, powered mirrors (with the Homelink option), and auto-dim mirror. The wiring and mods are 100% done, including the reverse auto-dim shut off.
I have also put in a woodgrain radio bezel from an Explorer Limited. I really didn't want to swap my FX4 bezel out, but I did want to mod the rear wiper switch and make it a permanent USB connector (done!). Not sure yet what I will do with the defroster button, but I will use it somehow.
I also managed to snag the MACH Premium Sound system from the same Explorer Limited and have that installed. I have designed an AUX port that I will be adding just below (and to the right) of the USB connector.
All of this is described at my
website. (
