We are only guessing but that is where I would start.

Lowes can make a key for your Ranger. I just had them make a 2nd one for my 2000 XLT and it works great. Cost me $75 though. But smart insurance instead of calling a locksmith.

Later,

Lee

Solved: That was interesting.

I have one key and wanted 2 more.
.
Ford dealer A quote=$240

Ford dealer B quote=$130

Ford Dealer A quote=$205(I called back because I could not believe the price difference. This time I called the service dept. I did not tell them I already had called.)

Local chipped key guy quote= $80(not sure what brand key).

My reliable local locksmith. $92 out the door for 2 Ford brand keys..... in the time it took to eat breakfest next door

FYI: the ultimate insurance is to always have 3 keys. Then if you lose one you still have 2 that allow you to get one made for around $20-$25.

Wow, you got a great deal there for sure! I would have loved to get a 3rd key but that $75 blew the budget for my household.

Thanks for the info...been a good thread all around and hopefully it's helpful for those in need of a key or two.

Lee

It really is annoying the way "some" dealers just screw people. I can only wonder how many elderly people they steal money from.
