| | Replaced Seats on 1987 Ranger
Hello All,
I just replaced the bench seat on my 87 Ranger with the seats from a 2007 Ranger STX which are 60/40 split. As you will see from my pictures, the bench seat was torn but also had some busted springs on the drivers side. The new seats are incredibly comfortable and make the ride feel soo much more enjoyable.
Because I upgraded with seats that are 20 years newer then my original ones, the brackets in the new seats did not match the floor pattern, so my brother and I had to do some modifications. This involved using a band saw to trim the new brackets and a drill to make new holes on the floor board. I used high strength bolts with lock washers to secure the seats.
The entire job took around 3 hours and was well worth it. I bought the seats from Craigslist for $200. | | Register and never see these ads again. | | |

You bolted them into something stronger than the floorboard right?

The stock seats are attached to what looks like a nut that is welded to the floorboard. If you look underneath the truck you will see where the factory bolts come through (at least on the 1987 Ranger). Well I did the same thing, drilled a hole through the floorboard and used high strength nuts, bolts, and lock washers to secure it.
Look at it this way. The original bench seat only had 4 bolts holding down the entire seat for two passengers. Now, each seat since they are 60/40 split has 4 bolts per seat holding it down.

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this forum. I have a 1997 Ranger 4wd and am looking into the same thing. Would you be able to take any measurements on your custom brackets? How much clearence do you have behind the seats, and do they still slide forward and back?

Sorry, I didn't take any measurements of how much I trimmed from the brackets, but I modified them so that the seats slide all the way back up against the back wall. Yes, the seats slide forward and back as intended.

ah you should ok on bolting them threw the floor board if your worried get a piece of steel plate and put it on the bottom of the floor board like a bigger square so it would take some shit to rip them out then but i wouldnt worry about it though... thats if you get board some day
