Automatics are NOT designed to coast in neutral. Fluid pressure builds in the wrong places. and shifting into drive while moving causes lots of stress on it. In general, its bad for the trans.

Its like the old joke: Guy tells the doctor, "It hurts when I do this." Doctor says, "Then don't do that anymore."

If it sounds like its hurting the truck, don't do it anymore.
