Replacing the insturment lights
Hello I'm trying to replace the stock burnt out instrument cluster lights with some plug and play LEDs. I know that in order for my blue LEDs to show their color I need to sand off the green film behind the gauges. What I'm lost at is trying to get to the green film itself. I've gotten the cluster out and the plastic cover off but I'm lost as to what to do next to get to that film. Any help please!!!!

You don't necessarily have to get rid of the green film. With my Ranger cluster I put in blue LEDs and they shined just fine. I currently have a Sport Trac cluster with orange LEDs and they shine orange without a problem. I didn't get rid of the film on either cluster.

Re: Replacing the insturment lights
You need to remove the needles. You then can pull off the gauge overlays.
They just pull up straight off the peg. Use a fork to help out. Use a gps to set mph if its off. Just reinstall gauges except plastic part to adjust. Reinstall plastic cover when your done.

Thanks for the info guys. I decided to just plug them in without screwing with anything and was pretty pleased with the results. Here's a pic of the final results and a before and after pic.

Re: Replacing the insturment lights
what is the bulb number for those and do they have them in red? also how did u get the trans indicator out, I had some spares laying around and couldn't get them in cause of the trans indicator cable. any quick tips to either unplug or disconnect it, and also to get it back to showing the right gear. 2001 reg cab if it makes any difference. not a digital gauge in the truck, yet!!

If I remember correctly I used these: http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...edge-base/206/
as you can see they have them in all kinds of colors
This is the guide that I used to do it all: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/inter...placement.html
But for specifics for different kinds of bulbs and what works and what doesn't I would read this thread because it's what I did. Any questions you have were probably asked and answered here, you just have to read through it: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/how-s...placement.html
Hope that helps!
