Default How to get the Ignition sterter switch off a 1985 4wd

Hello, I have a 1985 4wd short bed, trying to figure out how to get the ignition starter switch off the column, it has the security studs on it, a washer and a flattened stud on it, any ideas? thanks, dp.

gotta pull the plastic covers off of the steering column, once you're in there should be a small hole in the cylinder, use a screwdriver or peice of wire to push it in. many fords require you to have the key in the "on" position to be able to pull the ignition cylinder out, you'll need to disconnect the battery.

i havin't pulled one in a very long time so my memory is kinda fuzzy but that should pretty much do it.

Cool Re: How to get the Ignition sterter switch off a 1985 4wd

Hello, Thanks it came out, it was the switch that the rod to engage starter that had the studs in, after fiddling with it for a couple hours, I got the trusty vice grips out and prepared to do my worst, when I clamped them on I pulled and kinda gnarled em up, than twisted and they came unscrewed, so my bad, I should've known that it was gonna be easier than expected, unscrewed them came off lined the new switch up put a little loc tite on them, screwed theym back in, now cleaning the key switch and putting some silicone lube on it and will be done I've had this about ten years rebuilt the motor, front end and had a new drive shaft made, its got a late model header and getting prepared to rebuild the engine, putting a roller cam and followers, lifters and will be back on the road again, two sons taught to drive the clutch, pulled cars, trucks, trees and fire wood with it, like my litl grey ghost! thanks again, dp.
