Default How to stop the "key in ignition" beeping while door is open

So yeah, for anyone who wants to stop the beeping while the door is open (to listen to music while working etc) this is how to do it (with pics) for anyone like me who is a bit of a lostie.

Take out the 3 screws from bottom of steering wheel column.

Pull off the cover, you might need to pry it open with a flathead screwdriver.

Pull the white socket out, then re-assemble.

This worked for my 2008 Ranger, so I assume it works for the 2005+ models, dunno about the older ones.

Figured I'd post this since it took me ages to find it by google for the newer model. And when I did there was no pics. Dunno if it's already been posted here.

Also my Ranger is from Australia, if North American ones look any different to the pics.

Edit: Looks like this procedure works in any car, just might have slightly different looking ignitions/steering column, did this for my dad's van too, a Suzuki APV.

Subscribed. This feature is messed up in my truck, and I kind of wish if works. So maybe I'll try taking my steering column apart and see what I can find.

Have any better pics?

I'll add a couple more pics, hope it helps, my camera isn't all that great but I'll try get different angles in these pics too.

@Ford4thot: It just stops the beeping as far as I know. The warning if you forget your headlights still works fine.

Just tested the auto-lock feature that's on some of the models (with my spare key handy in case) it still detects that the keys are in ignition and will not lock you out.

So everything I can think of works as normal (in an '08 model). If I find out anything else is affected (apart from the annoying beep) I'll update.

Wait......you must not be in North America... Your ranger looks nothing like a North American truck. I wonder if this still applies to us or not

I hope so, because I was really looking forward to fixing that dinger

Yep. Just realized you're in Australia.

Yeah mines an Australian one, dunno if there is any differences with the ignition, I'll mention it in original post in case there is lol.

This should work for any car as far as I know, but the ignition might not look exactly the same as the pics, and possibly other cars might have their headlight warning or auto-lock affected differently.

And yeah the beep is really irritating, especially with music, so glad it's dead :P

That dinging has bothered me for a long long time. I can't tell you how many times I've been working on the truck and wanted to just open the doors and blare some tunes but the dinging always bothered me too much. Can anyone confirm that this works on a 2000 US model?

Well guys, mine doesn't look anything like the OP's. This is what a 2011 4x4 Sport looks like. I took a little black cover off over the circuit board. Took pic. Put it all back together. Just glad I have a sweet work radio, looks like my door chime is here to stay :-(
