Default kill switch

So I watched a show called gearz, it showed a way to put a kill switch in a car that can make it so someone can crank the car but it will not fire. I would like to do this with a ranger. Has anyone done something like this before?

Just some extra protection against car stealers

All you should need to do is add a switch between the fuse box and the fuel pump. I have considered this myself but have never done it.

Oh, and sometimes it takes longer than an hour and a half to get an answer here. Google should give you some ideas also.

Is there a way I can do it so the spark plugs won't fire?

Yeah, just interrupt one of the coil wires.

you want to make it so the fuel pump wont pump fuel into the engine. if you just stop the spark plugs from firing you will pump fuel into the engine and flood it i believe

I don't care of it floods, as long as the engine does not fire. The only time someone would be cranking the engine with the switch off, would be a thief.

i've actually got a "how to" diagram on exactly how to do this in an old "hot rod" magazine from the 70's... problem is i don't know where it is, lol.

if you want to install a kill switch you can do a fuel pump shutoff, or go for the wireing down into the cam position sensor. the cam sensor is what tells the coil pack what cylinder to fire, basically it controlls all spark in the engine. my buddies truck had the plug rot out for the CPS and the truck would crank like hell but no spark = no start.

i just realized, you're truck is a 2000 XLT right? it should have the pats system where it'll only start with the chipped key, that's coded to you're truck.

I put a kill switch for the starter. I used to have it to the gas pump but it kept blowing my fuses lol

This. If it has pats it already comes with a "kill switch."

I once made a mill switch with the high beams. U would have to hold the high beams on in order to star car. U can jus use a rely but instead starter wire get the fuel pump

Agreed. What I'd really like to know is what is the best way to keep your Ranger from being towed as that seems to be the way it is done these days.
