Default Help Plastic Burning Smell

Ive got a 06 Ranger. The smell seems to be coming from the cab but i cannot seem to find the smell anywhere else. not the engine the exhaust or anything. I thought i would just let it burn away whatever then find the problem but the smell keeps coming back. If anyone out there has had this problem please help me haha I cannot stand this stupid smell anymore.

See I canned the stock radio as soon as I got it Haha so maybe it's from the stereo.

Check the plug for the climate control fan. It might be corroded and shorting out. It's in the engine bay on the left side below the fan housing. It or the resistor might be cooking away.

I have a similar issue. My burning smell occurs as soon as I start my truck and put the fan on high and high heat. Smells just as you described a plastic/electrical but no smoke observed. I replaced the fan motor last fall and I have not smelled the burning smell up until last week. I just replaced the alternator if that may have anything to do with it but I do have a custom radio with subwoofers also. Possibly a heat shield failure? Or something lodged in the spindle of the new fan? Any help is appreciated!

When my blower motor resistor was bad it made that smell. A sign they're going bad is if the fan only works on one setting, usually high. Might be the cause??

Possibly. I am confused though because I just replaced the fan motor and it works on all speeds. Happens most often on early morning starts after a cold night (michigan).

This part is different from the actual fan motor tho. I just thought it could be something to think about. Idk after that. Is it coming out the vents or where?

Gotcha. I will check it out more in depth when I have some extra time. From what I believe it is coming from the vents. I usually only run it on floor, floor and defrost, or just defrost
