Sorry for not posting for so long. I didn't find anything out of the ordinary and surprisingly the smell hasn't come about since I posted last. Weird. If it happens again I think I will tear the fan motor apart and see what's up.

Nothing plugged into either power outlet. And it is an automatic ranger. Actually tried to provoke the smell again earlier today and smoke started pouring out when fan motor was on high. Determined that it was a faulty fan motor, dropped a new one in and no problems at all.
