How many hours does this take? Any rewiring needed or is it a simple PnP plug?

Go to a junk yard. Get the resistor pack and wiring and connector leading to it. (yes, cut it). If the truck's wiring and connector is fine, you won't need the donor wiring and connector. But often the truck's connector is all corroded or melted too. The resistor pack simply unplugs and plugs in. So at best, you unplug it and replace it. At worst, you cut off the connector too and splice in the new one. Less than an hour.

Should my temperature control be very hard to move between hot and cold? When I move it from hot to cold it's very tough to turn, when I turn from cold to red. It slides easy. Should I replace the controls & switches?

mine feels the same no matter how you turn it. see if you can find an HVAC panel at the JY cheap, make sure the plugs on the back are the same as youre's.

I don't have AC installed in mine. So I'm assuming I just get a non AC hvac panel?

It could be the blend door actuator or the blend door itself getting jammed up. Replacing the panel will not fix that obviously. This of course assuming you have the cable driven blend door actuator, not the electronic one, which I suspect is the case.
