How do I remove the dome light cover from a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT? Standard Cab. There is a slot in the lower middle of the plastic cover, but no reasonable amount of prying or probing seems to make contact with any connector.

Basic problem is the person I bought the vehicle from had removed fuse because dome and courtesy light over bed stay on all time. Brake light in bed was blown, but now works after replacement of fuse and bulb. I suspect the dome light switch may be bad although it feels solid in each of the three positions. Thanks.

Try to get your finger under the back of it. It's a beast to get off.

It just pries off.

Is the door ajar light by chance also always on?

Thanks for the replies. Found a Youtube video that shows coming in through the cargo/brake light slot with a screwdriver and a hammer - amazingly poor design.
