Used Velcro to attach the head to the dash. Instant $75 separation kit. Just glad that the Icom came with the kit as it is a different setup.

I really like my 857 so far. The separation kit came with it for free, but has a $20 value. Excited to get it fully working on the HF bands (as soon as I get my general lol)

I was wondering about CB Radios... how far of a range do you get with them?? i understand that different radios and antennas will make a difference but in general for a mid -good quality one, what kind of range would you get and for how much $$$

You might wanna take into account the terrain also. I can get good distance down here cause it's pretty much flat. Hills and mountains will most likely limit your range.

Yeah, I will soon for the 2M/440 antenna. The HF antenna (which is the one that can get around the world) I dont have yet (lol) but will post pics of it when i have it in a few weeks... Hopefully I will pass my test in 2 weeks so I can transmit in the HF bands

And, here are the Antenna pics.

2M/440 (70cm) dual-band whip antenna

The self-color-matched mount

Another angle on the mount, and how i have the wire run.

Antenna off the mount

2M whip

The mount (also self-color-matched... ish...)

Close-up top

Close-up bottom. (sorry for the abnormally-crappy picture...)

Hope that works

Anyone got pics of where you have your antennas mounted? Im going to start mounting mine later today, hopefully.

I have a 4ft Firestik antenna, and I planned on mounting it on my bed, right up against the cab, but Im not sure if thats the "ideal" location for mounting it. Anyone got any input? Also I plan on using industrial strength Velcro to mount the radio inside the cab, Im not really in the mood to put holes in my console at the moment. Hopefully it works out. ive seen on this thread a couple people that did the same thing.

Got it mounted. Ill try and take some pics of my setup soon. I dont think the industrial velcro is gonna hold onto my center console for very much longer though...
