Default Smoke coming out of HVAC vents

This is the 2nd time this has happened to me. I'm driving for about 30-45 minutes with AC ON. I start smelling burning resistor smell. All of a sudden white smoke starts pouring out of AC vents. Continues to happen even if I only run vent and no AC. Is this the blower motor going bad? If not what else could it be? 1990 Ranger xlt 2.9 V6 5 speed 161,000 miles. Thanks, Dave
