So i decided to fix the bulb out in my instrument panel today. I went to o'riely auto parts gave the guy the year make and model 09 xl and his computer did not pull up the bulb part number. So i called ford and the guy said there are 11 bulbs and they are 32 dollars each and there was no regular part number. I said so your telling me i can only get this fixed through ford he said pretty much. Anyone else evet heard of 32 dollar bulbs that have no part number?

I know it is a 194 for the 99 ranger but ford could neither confirm or deny what bulb is used for the 09. He said you wont find it at an auto parts store and that was after calling two different ford dealers. I dont know if i want to take it all apart only to find out i cant get the bulb at auto zone or other auto parts.

If it were me, I'd buy a couple of 194's(save receipt), and take it apart. If they fit, awesome!
If not, then you know you're gonna have to call ford and grab your ankles.

Reading down in this thread, it looks like Ford changed bulbs somewhere along the line.
You might want to message member Buggman, see if he has some LED's that'll fit your dash.

Im almost positive it is not a 194 bulb because i have been told that the previous year trucks that did take the 194 bulb only had 6 total in the cluster. Both ford dealers told me my xl cluster uses 11. So my cluster is either twice as bright or uses a different bulb. Thats my thought.

if it hasn't been said before, replace all the bulbs in the cluster at the same time,.if they need it or not!!
Its still a bit of work to get to the cluster and get it out, so might as well replace all the bulbs.
Otherwise u may be taking it all apart again soon to replace another bulb!
Had a buddy, Minnesota2001Ranger, a fellow MN member, hitting himself in the head cuz he only replaced one!!

I knew already to replace them all at same time but someone else here told me the same thing. Problem is ford says there is 11 at $31.88 a piece! Thats right each. The auto parts store could not locate a part number and so i called two ford dealers and they said you can not get it in an auto parts store...long story short im just going to leave it burnt out. I dont really want to take it apart to find its not a 194 bulb and ford is right.

not to butt in on this, but the whole instrument cluster thing has some kind of nightmare reputation. the guy I got my 96 from has been driving without left side bulbs for years because he was told there is too much work involved in removing the dash inserts. I got the link too, looks like a piece of cake......it will be nice to see how much gas I have at night......gonna take care of it next weekend........

Acdelco shows it to be a 194. Since you are gonna pull it anyway, might as well pull one out and see what it looks like and go from there.

You have to pop off the radio Bezel ,then the lower dash below the steering wheel ,then the metal reinforcement plate under the steering wheel .Now you can get to the screws that hold in the Cluster put the trans in low if auto and tilt wheel all the way down .slip out the cluster replace the bulbs and reinstall everything .Have fun ..

I know how to do it, the problem is oreily computer doesnt show the type of bulb it takes and two ford dealers told me that you cant get them from an auto parts store but ford has them at $31.88 each. It may or may not be a 194 bulb im just not sure i want to remove everything to find out.

The ford dealers are bullshitting you. I got mine from advance auto. Just take the burnt bulbs from your cluster out, give them to the guy at the auto parts store and put the new ones in. It doesn't take very long to take out the cluster. Maybe 15 minutes.
