Exclamation Headliner is leaking from edge near windshield!

I've had plenty of rangers, but the two oldest ones (both 1992 models) leak water from the headliner, near the edge closest to the front windshield. Does anyone have any suggestion for why or how to fix the prob? I currently have a nice, clean, 92 and I want to keep it that way for a long time so I dont want water buildup, causing rust in the future. Advice?

First, before we can really help you with a solution, is to pinpoint exactly where the leak is coming from. May just need a new seal on something i.e. third brake light.

It's almost always the third brake light. I epoxied the back of the original seal making it thicker which worked. I have also experimented with a seal made out of a Bike tube..this worked verywell but not convenient to someone who kept taking the light off.

OK, I thought I explained the leaks location in the original post, but its not in the back near the 3rd brake light, its in the front near the edge that runs with the windshield. If you are sitting in the drivers seat, and you look up to where the headliner stops and the windshield starts... right there.

Your headliner is not leaking lol.

Your windshield seal is rotted or crack and needs to be replaced.

X2. Either that or the sealing surface is rusted under the windshield and is leaking. Its pretty common especially the older trucks.

I know that the actual headliner itself isn't leaking, I'm just saying that the headliner gets a visible water spot in the corner and drips from that spot. So I was wondering where the water was coming from to cause this. So, you guys think that its because the window seal is old and needs to be replaced?

Yeah. That's the only thing it could be unless you have visible rust holes right there.

Best thing to do to confirm this to to take the headliner down and soak the top of your truck at the top of the windshield. Watch for leaking water.

And I was just poking fun at you about the headliner leaking.

I know you were. Anyway, I just now took the headliner out and I think what happened was at one point and time the windshield was replaced and the resealing job wasn't the best. So what i think I'm gonna do is take some kind of sealer or silicon or something and add to the seal all the way across. My only prob now is where the water was coming in, the headliner is looking pretty rough and I was thinking about getting a new one but I dont know where to look??

I wouldn't do silicone. It will leak into the side pillars and cause further damage you won't know about till its to late. Believe me, I tried that with my rear window and it still leaked.

It would be best just to have the windshield re-sealed.

I used silicone on my back window and so far it's stopped leaking, i'm having the same issue and I siliconed my corner and i'm waiting for it to rain and see if it is fixed, I haven't had any problems with silicone so far..

Silicone mask the actual problem and is a lazy way of fixing a leaking window seal. Yes it works when your short on money but should not be a permanent fix.

If you decide to use silicone and not fix the problem the correct way then have fun.
