Default Engine keeps revving after gas is released and clutch is engaged.

Today I noticed my engine will maintain the rpm for a couple seconds once I remove my foot from the gas, and raise it if I engage the clutch to shift up a gear. Why is this caused?

How long is a couple of seconds? Could be IAC problems or throttle body sticking.

I know the 2.3's do this because the computer is programmed that way.

2 seconds at most. It just started doing this today. In the past it would jump just a milimeter or so but did not affect the driving at all. I need to know what may be the problem because my father is taking it to the river; therefore, it needs to be safe for him.

Have you ever cleaned the throttle body or IAC? I would do that first.

I had this same problem, gonna sound strange but check the oil. Mine was doing that for about 3 days and then the engine blew due to no oil, and the even more strange thing is that there was no leak spots or anything on my driveway. And they poured water in the blown engine and it didnt leak anywhere
