Power Door Lock Problem
I have a 2000 Ranger with power door locks but they won't turn over. Like I will hit the button from the inside and it tries to push the locks open but it doesn't have enough power to do so i guess? Same problem if i'm trying to lock them from inside. Also turning the key in the exterior key slot only unlocks the drivers side door (it manually opens it definitely not electrical) and nothing on the passenger side. any idea what the problem is?

Re: Power Door Lock Problem
Driver side you have a bd actuator, you will need to replace it. Passenger side has a disconnect somewhere in the door. You would have to pull it apart to see what the issue is.
It is really simple: lock is connected to rod which is connected to the electric actuator. When the actuator is no longer operable, it does not have the force to open or close the lock. If I remember correctly, the gears inside the lock actuator are plastic and will inevitably fail over time.
FYI....I think these are a BTCH to replace because of the tight space you need to work in and the lack of being able to see anything.

Unlikely because the OP said that the locks try to go up but dont have enough power...

Re: Power Door Lock Problem
google, ebay, amazon, rockauto.....you just gotta shop around. Not too expensive though.

I bought the driver side actuator from this seller.....good deal.

Re: Power Door Lock Problem
I am having problems with my power locks too. I have and 88' Ranger xlt and I replaced the actuator on both my doors recently. Neither were working at the time of replacement but replacing the actuator didn't fix my driver side lock. any suggestions on fixing this?

Check for current on the wiring harness and pin out the cable.

Could just be that you need a new lock/unlock switch.....i.e. when you press unlock, the switch does not actually send out the signal.
OR
It may be the unlock relay located behind the plastic cargo panel on the drivers side. The switch sends a signal to the lock relay when you push the switch to lock the doors; the switch sends a signal to the unlock relay when you push the switch to unlock the doors. The relays actually send the signal to the lock actuators in the doors to lock or unlock.
Most likely the lock relay IMO....again, test for current in the wires to identify the issue.

Re: Power Door Lock Problem
Since I just put door locks on my truck I can tell you how to remove it. The actuator slides and locks into place on your door latch. There is no lock rods connected to it. It has a pin that slides into the door latch and the pin moves on a arm.
The best way to remove it is to first unplug the connector going to it. (don't confuse it with the door ajar switch on the bottom of the latch). I think it is one of those type connectors where you push on the tab and pull not pull up on the tab (these tabs can break easy). You should probably get yourself a small mirror or one of those telescoping handle mirrors (like 2 bucks at auto parts store). And see if you can get one of those right angle picks. Seen here on the far right. You need to pull back on the lock tab (pulling it toward the door hinge/front of truck) and slide the actuator toward the outside of the door. Reverse steps.
You can unbolt the latch to help this process out. 3 or 4 torx bolts. Make sure to push hard when unbolting these because they have locktite and can strip pretty easily.
Best thing to do is to study the new part and see how it looks. Make sure when you replace it, that the pin is in the right posisiton.
