My 93 Ranger is having a problem. About once a day for the past three days, when i turn the key, nothing happens. No cranking or anything. I think i hear one click then silence. I turn the key off, then turn it on again and the engine starts just fine, two seconds later.
I have been driving the truck since December. In January, i drove it for an hour, turned it off, and two hours later the battery was completely dead. I heard a clicking under the hood when the key was in the off position (if i remember correctly). i jumped it (it took awhile to charge) and it ran fine. A week ago, I drove for ten minutes, then fifteen minutes later, the battery was dead. That seemed to be the start of when turning the key didn't even crank the engine.
Is it the ignition switch? Crankshaft position sensor? Solenoid? Starter? I have checked the battery connections (even cleaned them). Any help would be great! thank you!

could be a defective battery. I had a similar problem when mine was brand new. Manufacturer defective battery, part of the lead in the battery was busted and (from what the service manager told me) laying on the bottom of the battery. Even if your battery is new it can still fail. I hope it is something that simple, or you know someone who enjoys a challenge nothing worse than an intermittent electrical problem.

Check your battery cables...at the battery and on the starter...ground wire too.
