Default Trying to get rid of 'mouse house' inside dash and air ducts

Hi all, this is my first post here, hoping to get a few suggestions on trying to clean out a few places where the mice made a nice home for themselves in the dash and air ducts.
I just bought a 99 XLT 4WD, regular cab, it's in really decent shape inside and out, except that it sat all winter and got infested with mice.
I cleaned out the hood, engine compartment, air cleaner and interior of the cab already. Now I am trying to figure out how to get at the airbox under the dash, I think there is a lot of stuff in there where they were nesting. I turned on the fan and it smells like something died. After looking behind the glove box , I can see a lot of crap coming out between the upper and lower halves of the air box.
I was told that the only way to get in there to vacuum it out and clean it is to take the whole dash out.
Anyone else had to do this?
Thanks in advance for any helpful tips.

Taking the dash out is the only way.. its easy though. Just go slow... or they might jump out at you ;-)
