You don't need to shave the locks. To thwart the screwdriver thieves, just eliminate the lock rods that go up to the pins. This requires removing the inner door panel and cutting the lock rods with a cutoff wheel, die grinder of similar. There isn't room to use a hacksaw effectively.

A stick-on Ford accessory keypad programs into your truck like an ordinary fob and will give you another way in if you lock your keys and fob inside.

Back these steps up with a decent alarm.

My goal is to avoid body damage... would this still apear to have a lock behind it from the outside?

Yes....would look just like stock. I was thinking about cutting the rods, but the end outcome isn't what you want since there's still the hole, a screwdriver can fit, and tweaked sheet metal will still happen.

I wonder if I can whip something up using a junkyard lock cyl. Pop the 'cover' thing off, weld the key hole/flapper shut, smooth it down, paint it. We can use any one that'll fit a ranger...do the work...install on your truck with the rods attached. And it'll work since outside of the keyway, they're all the same. Only downside is that it'll be black or GO instead of the chrome/zinc finish like yours is stock. I think we may have some disassembly of shane's truck at the meet to investigate! I think I'm onto something here....

It doesn't change the look from the outside except to eliminate the door pins. Without the lock rods, the truck is more secure from casual thieves.

As far as the "access" holes go, they will be there regardless unless you completely shave the door handles.

That's why you still need a good alarm.

So my truck was broken into again last night... 2nd time in the last 4-5 months. I really don't wanna put it back to stock so I'm trying to figure out how to make it more secure. My first question is is there any way to make it so they can't put a screwdriver in and pop that lock? Also I guess I need to bite the bullet and get an alarm so I need suggestions/opinons.

My concern is both times they've broken the pass. side key lock and popped the lock. This time they didn't take anything from inside the truck but I still have to go to a body shop and pay the deductible. Is there a way to prevent the body damage in the future?? Thanks!
Does your truck have a remote keyless entry? If so it should already have an alarm when you double click your lock button on your fob.

That's what I always thought... I do have remote and always double click the lock so it honks but alarm has never gone off.

Oh, well I've had trouble starting my other cars with keyless remote and the alarm is going off, and I can't get the fob to respond.

I missed some of the other posts also.
