Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a 99 ranger supercab (that's what the dealer calls it), and the center armrest is broken and tied down by a string. I'm guessing its a spring-loaded sideways flipping lid. Anyway, how hard is it going to to get that fixed? I found a kit that fixes the other style of arm rest, but it won't work with this one. If I do decide to get the truck, are there any suuggestions besides leaving it tied down?

Buy a new one off ebay around 20-30 bucks for one

You can find fixes on Ebay too, but the ones that have been seen have the latch that secures the armrest in the down position. The fix quoted in the thread above has no latch so it will move up and down with ease.

Hey Todd! Wern't you the one who enlightened the Ranger community on the shorty console lid fix on RPS? Thanks again! I'll be calling RockAuto on monday to see if they'll update thier page to list that shorty console lid repair kit so that it pops up when you look up 98+ Rangers because it fits.

Just to clear something up....no ranger shorty console came with rear cupholders, only explorers did and cupholder ones got the latch. I'm refering to shorty console as the console that comes in bucket equipped trucks. I think the Ranger full length consoles have the same lid/armrest too.


Unfortunately, I've never seen a fix for the 60/40 consoles of any style. Yards want a crap load of money for 'em typicially because they do break all the time, so they're sought after. Best bet is scrolling ebay for a new-to-you lid or entire console. My old 0-40 console from my 01 was different than my buddy's '98....his lid screws were exposed while mine wern't. So I had to destroy the plastic cubby lining to get to the screws. Just an FYI.

Yep shane, that was me on RPS. Completely forgot about the 60/40 console lid (even though I have one in my truck,) just call it a blond moment on my part. I have yet see a fix for the split bench console fix either. And if I wasn't having a blond moment, I would know too that rangers have the cupholders on the back wall versus the console lid. (i knew this cuz I've owned 3 extended cabs and completely spaced it off.

BTW, did you ever get the fix and get it installed? I want to hear from you what you thought of the fix. Been looking for it on RPS and haven't seen your thoughts yet.

Yeah..installed mine a couple days before christmas and have been meaning to write a review with my modificiations to it too. Had to grind the back roll up part and I used smaller pivot bolts to let the console fit flat instead of at an angle. I''ll get into all of it in my thread/review, not here. lol. tons of pics too. haha.

Yea, but my stupidity came out and I forgot to stop and think about the split bench console and I linked to your write up on RPS about the full console with the bucket seats. Like i said, huge blond moment on my part.

Tried to do a good thing and made myself look just a little stupid. Oh well.

it's not that bad. It's easier if the stock base is so messed up that it actually comes off the pin like it was nothing. Or you can make the stock base effed up even more so that it'll just slide right off. lol. I managed to pop it out using a hammer on a "not so broken" base. lol.


Some slide right out....others are in there good.

i just bought some velcro strips at the local walmart and put a ring of velcro around the lid stays down fine and lifts up for use when needed also cant see that its broken
