Angry rubber coating on expo console

ok so i went to the junk yard and pulled a full length cc out of an explorer and i want to paint it...

the thing is that the black pieces like the cup holder have that damn coating on them...

how do i get it off...

i read earlier threads and one said sand paper or just peeling it off and neither work.

HELP.

sand 'em. If it's already peeling, you can do alot of the stripping with your thumb....but it sure does take a while and your thumb does start hurtin' hardcore and can't really get all of it off anyway. Sandpaper is the answer. It's the same rubber coating on the radio bezel everybody has to deal with peeling on. Can't go by one person saying you "can't sand it or peel it off...neither work". They probably never touched that piece of the truck.

Sand the rubber coating off using a course grit paper(I use 220), then smooth it down with a higher grit like 600. Then spray as normal. Wipe down with a prep pad, prime or an adhesion promotor, color, clear. Whatever. I've done two or three radio bezels as well as many others have. My buddy did his expo console back when he was still an auto.

Here's my buddy Trevor's old console...

You mean remove the 4 screws that mount the storage bin to the bezel piece? That's not exactly much of a "mod" at all. lol.

Redlinetuning I believe sells boots for a pretty fair price and it's quality stuff. Might wanna check 'em out.

Here's some inspirational pics of my buddy's old truck...it might be at the meet this weekend....

you have to dremel out the square around the cubby insert to be able to reattach the boot and get it to stay, i would call that a mod, as the word modify seems to pertain to this situtation.

any more smartass answers?

i found out the hard way and bout fine (my bad) went back and got 60 grit (coarse) and 100 grit (medium) then 220 grit (fine) and 600 grit

the 60 grit takes it right off alot less work then the 220 lol
