97 to 02 swap

I have a 97 4x4 4.0 and can purchase a 02 2wd 4.0. Will it be possible to swap the engine and rear diff? Also is the driveshaft the same or different from the 2wd to the 4wd? Any help would be great thanks.

sure it's possible. but you will need to pretty much swap everything. motor, trans, wiring, mounts, exhaust, etc. the drive shaft is not the same between 2wd and 4wd. 4wd is much shorter due to the transfer case.

Will I need a different ECU for it since the truck is 4wd and the donor is 2wd? Also will the manual tranny in my truck work with the 02 engine?

Is the rear diff the same from the 97 4x4 to the 02 2wd?

Would the engine from a 95 be a direct swap using the 97 components or would it need the wire harness and everything as well?

could be the same, could be different. i have a 95 4.0 and it has the old style cam, meaning the wiring probably wouldn't be the same as a 96-7. but later model 95s may.
