Post door/dome light trouble?

I have an 01 ranger edge 4x4 4 door with an automatic 4.0 v6.
I just got it a month ago, and it's bitterly cold here, so I haven't had a chance to really dig into it.
My issue is that when I open the driver's door, the dome light doesn't come on, which means the security system won't work and someone can just leisurely rip out my beloved intricate stereo system at any given time.
I had a zr2 once, and it was traced to a " door pin switch?" which was expensive and really hard to get ahold of. Is this the same thing here?
If so, is it something I can tackle? I may just be a little bitty girl, but I do all my own work, so I'm not totally incompitent.
thanks for any info you can give me.
I'd like some warm weather, so I can take and post some pictures of my baby.

first off welcome to the site. may i suggest getting some wd40 or something similar and spraying it in the door latch and opening and closing the door a few times has made the pin work if it's extremely dirty . that would be a place to start since it's cold out..

Hey, thanks for the welcome,.. and the tip. I will do that during the next thaw. It hasn't worked since I got the truck but it wasn't that warm then either.
I like your truck, by the way. That hood is mean looking. Is that painted or a wrap of some kind?

I checked the lights and the fuse. I sprayed the latch with grease and tried working it a few times and it still doesn't come on. It works with the passenger side door and when I turn the wheel to light up the interior, it works also.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks

oops, I forgot to mention that I was under the impression that the security system worked by tripping a current like when the dome light comes on. I've installed aftermarket alarms before, and that's how they usually work, right? I haven't checked to see if the alarm goes off when I open the driver's door, but I will have to check. If it does still work, the dome light coming on is not as important as it seems to be.

no, I haven't checked the direction of the switch, or compare it to the passenger door. I was going to run outside and take a quick look, but it's super dark, and snowing again. We're going to be buried alive down here. I will check that at first light tomorrow.
