'94 2.3L Cluster replace adding Tach, success!
Finally, my '94 Splash has a tach...
Several months ago I tried to install two different instrument clusters with tachometers into my ranger but they both would read around half actual engine RPM... One was from a 1994 4.0L Explorer (not marked "4.0L only") and the other from a 1993 B3000. No joy... I gave up for the moment.
Fast forward to two weeks ago when my engine started running on two cylinders, I tested components and reviewed the schematics of the ignition system to determine the cause. After finding an intermittent Ignition Control Module, I began thinking about the tachometer signal and where it originates and travels.
Today, I reinstalled both clusters to test my theory that the ICM was the reason for the incorrect tach display... Success, both tachometers work perfectly... I swapped my original speedo/odo into the Mazda cluster and am very happy!!!
I have a very nice spare cluster with tachometer for sale... $45 shipped to your door...
