So, basically my 89 ext cab ranger was stolen and recovered but with one helluva funky odor in the interior. And now I feel that this is a good time to swap out the seats for something with at least a headrest. I looked around the forums and found one post regarding 1989 ranger seat interchangability but nothing else. I also went out and checked out an ad on CL for seats from a 95 reg cab. Would not fit at all. The 95 brackets are way off and the seats themselves looked like they would not accept the 89 rails. I thought I could change them with any ranger with the exception of 98+. So, what exactly should I be looking for? Thanks!

Also there is nearby seller who has seats from a 95 explorer available.

pretty much anything on it will bolt on to 97 and older tracks.

Saw that already but thanks. What I'm a bit confused on is the fact that the seats I looked at did not fit the 89 at all. Is it just because they were out of a regular cab? Thanks

shouldn't matter. the seat pan should have several sets of holes already drilled in them. the only thing that is different between a reg cab and ext cab (pre 97) is the length of the mounting points. so your tracks should still bolt up to the seats. i currently have gen 1 bronco II seats bolted to my 95 tracks. bolted right in.

Use the 89 tracks on pre-98 seats. Thanks for clearing that up. Much appreciated.

I actually have seats out of an 88 ranger that i put into my 93 xlt reg cab. Only thing i had to do was swap the rails off my original seats to the ones from the 88.

Was there much modification required?

Nope. all i had to do was take the brackets off my old seats and bolt them onto the one from the 88. Only thing i had to do my self was change the mech for tilting the back because the one on the seat was rusted to hell. But can't beat getting free seats. not to mention i got a lot of parts off of the truck i pulled them from.
