Default Replacing the parking brake release pull

The plastic handle for my parking brake release came off. Any suggestions for replacements?

I would guess that you could go to a junk yard and get the handle.

The handle is molded into the release rod, which is riveted/permanently connected to the pedal assembly.

I got an entire assembly from somebody scrapping their ranger, so I didn't have to remove it. I haven't installed it yet, that is about the next task on my list.

Here's a photo that shows how the release handle is molded on the release bar:

And the assembly with a missing handle:

That's exactly the problem. the handle is molded onto the shaft.

How hard is it to replace the whole assembly.

If the broken piece still fits together cleanly with the rest of the handle, you might be able to do what I did:

Just position the broken piece back where it came from, then wrap a plastic cable-tie around the shaft to hold it in place and tighten it as much as you can with your fingers.

Now you have to tighten the cable-tie FIRMLY. This can take a little creativity with channel locks and vise-grips. I placed the part on a step, fed the cable-tie through the channel locks, then stood on them so I could pull the loose end through with the vise-grips. You should be able to get 2-3 more clicks of tightening this way if you do it right.

Now you can cut off the excess and you'll have a very strong, structurally-reinforced handle again that you can simply press-fit back onto the shaft. This worked very nicely in my case.

Have an 07 Ranger built in Argentina. Quad Cab full four door, diesel,4x4.
The parking brake handle is missing. It has a wire in a L shape not a ball or molded end. I can just pull the L shaped end but want a proper handle. any thoughts

On the parts truck, I used a bolt cutter to cut the flat lever that the pull is rivited to. Then there's 2 or so screws near the handle. Ground the rivet off on the bench grinder, drilled hole slightly oversized (the rivit is stepped).

On my truck, i used an angle grinder to remove the rivet from the flat lever. Took the new handle to ace hardware, pieced together basically a hollow shaft that fit through the holes cut to length with a screw and nylon nut with some washers to hold it together. Something like that.

Eventually I'll get a whole spare assembly.

Does the assembly just unbolt on the '96?

I replaced mine for $ 24.99 on ebay. Just search for, “parking brake release handle replacement” on ebay. It installed really easy and took about 30 seconds. Works great and you don't have to remove or install the inside parking brake assembly.
