Default Making a "trap"

As most of you know, i was recently robbed and had alot of things stolen from my truck. That being said, i'm tired of carrying my new ipod and gps around with me everywhere i go when i leave my truck.
I'm looking into making a "trap" (secret storage compartment easy to acess but hidden from sight in a sneaky location) to keep all of my things in that way i dont have to tote them around. There will not be anything illegal stashed in said "trap" at any point in time so no freaking out from the L.E.O.'s or anything. I'm just looking for ideas or info from anyone else that has made one or thought of a cool spot for one.

Thanks in advance,
Drew

I'll have to think about this one.

In the mean time, have you considered a locking tonneau cover?

i've thought about fiberglassing a cubby behind the glove box or taking out the cupholders on my shorty console and stashing things in that hole underneath them and snapping the cupholders back in.

yes i have considered that.. but i have a toolbox on the bed. and i dont particularly like the idea of my stuff locked in there in case of a leak or something.

i've got a shorty console at the moment.

and the glove box idea would basically be a hidden pocket behind the glovebox door.

If your short console is like my full length console it is deep.

You could make a plastic piece to make a "trap" door so it only appears to be maybe 5" deep

you can get a metal console that locks and is like indestructible, they make them for police exploders so they'll work on rangers too

I see you have a 4-door and also saw you though about fiber glassing. What about using the storage cubbies in the rear doors and glassing a door on the top of them and installing a lock??

Behind the glove box may not work as when closed I am not too sure if there is much room behind it.

I think I know the console you have, it has a gap under the armrest part IIRC. What about making that space into a lock box and cover it in carpet so you cannot tell anything is there?

Start looking for Jeep consoles. Like everyone that I have seen has been lockable and durable looking because, well, Jeeps are easy to break into.

All your suggestions are coming together pretty well. I'm drawing a few things up to see what might work best, or... Make one of each.lol

Tom, I like your idea.. But do you know if it'll hold up to getting run over when I load the wheeler and motorcyle in the bed?

a freind of mine has a 1995 extracab, he installed a locking gun safe....it has the pushbutton 4 digit code, he bolted it to the back floor under his jump seat, it fits good and unless you reallly look at it you cant tell its a gun safe. its padded so your stuff doesnt bounce around, and its secure they cant physically rip it out of the truck, but you can open it and simply unbolt the two or three bolts, you decide how you want to secure it. when its not in the vehicle you can mark, and drill the holes needed for bolting it down.
