Default LED's or Glass Paint?

So, I am working right now on my HVAC controls and am going to throw some transparent paint on them. But, for the guages, should I go with LEDs and no light filter? Or, will paint and incadecents look good? I believe I have the skills to solder up my own LEDs.
I am wondering how well the glass paint will match the LEDs in the vents, foot wells and glove box that I want to put in. I am also hoping that this will more or less match the red on my headunit.
Anyone think it will? Or any advice on how to make it match?

Was it hard to do?
I see guides on how to do it. but it looks very confusing reading them.

The HVAC controls were pretty simple. The guide in the how-to section helps alot.
It looks really good too . When I get all my lighting finished I'll post pictures.
