Question Tach

Can anyone give some ideas on a tach for my 96 with 2.3.The cluster didn't come stock with a tach.I know can go to parts store and after market and install. The only thing with that is were to mount it.I would like to not stick out like a big pimple.I cleanest look would be go to a junk yard and get a cluster with a tach in it.But i've been told if didn;t come wired with a tach it wont work.1 last thing it dosen't a coil it has dual coil pack. Were would wire the RPM wire?Any thoughts.

If you get a cluster with tach it will plug right in all ready wired for one

My 99 doesn't have a tach, your saying that the wires/plug are just sitting behind the current cluster? I would love one with a tach and once it warms up I want to start looking for one in some local pick and pull yards.

I had one in my 96 2.3l. It was an aftermarket one from the parts store. Mounted on the steering collum kinda on the top left side. That way I could still read the speedo, fuel, and temp guages clearly. If I remember right, there are 3 wires going into the coil pack. one of them will work, I think it was a green with black stripe, but not really sure anymore. I do know that I just Taped into all of them untill I hit the right one. It's pretty easy. One wire reads correctly, the other two read half of what the actual rpm is.

Retro look, mount a 3 ⅝” Tach on the Dash.

I haven’t done this yet but will soon enough.
