Question tachomiter help

hey im looking to put in a rpm tac in my truck. i dont have one so im looking to put one in...dont need anything secial..i have tried to find some but dont understand how some of them work. if anyone can help. thanks.

iv got a 94 ford ranger. most baisic truck u can ever get. no power stearing. manual locks and windows. got a JVC KDR200, with a pair of Pyle 6" X 8" Blue Label 3-Way Speakers and wired an antennna. its a 2.3L 4 banger, with a 5 speed manual transmission. it had 117,400 miles on it wen i got it. i plan on dropping it a few inches. in the procces of repainting the interior. i want new headlights and taillights and paint my factory rims black. plan on getting a cheap sub and put in it.

Be easier to find a gauge cluster with a tach simple plug and play and looks cleaner

were can i find one? i didnt think you could change clusters like that...thought it had to be the same kinda cluster

Any tach you buy will have 4 wires. Red Black White and Green. Red is Ign hot. Black is ground. White is Illum. And green is tach lead that allows the tack to read rpms.

For your truck go to the connector for the coil and its a tan wire with a yellow tracer thatll supply the rpm pulse.

stl..is this what you mean? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...d=320447715200 ....and bagranger....its not realyt the wires im worried bout. its more the porformance and how it works....some just look different. goes up to like 8 rpms and u can set ur rev limit i guess..not sure

I got one from the zone and it works great. I got it mnted on my steering column but on my truck it sits in between my 2 gauge pods. I haven't had a problem with my tach.

I don't understand why automatic cars have a tach in the dash but manual shifts don't??? Who gives a sh!t how many rpms your automatic is turning it shifts for you. Its assbackwards.

Bass Ackwards more likly. My 89 was an auto and it had a tack. And my 85 is a 5 sp but then again the 1st gen rangers didnt have tachs from the factory.

Ford used 1 wiring harness for all the trucks instead of diffrent ones. So where the cluster connects it is already wired ready to rock and roll

corey. i agree man. i just wana no if im running her to hard..u no? manuals should always have a tach. f automatics. and thanks stl. i think thats the way ima go then. im not to good with the wireing parts...but question....what about the miles my tack says and the miles the one im getting says...is there any way to lower or hire the new one to match wat i have now? thanks
