Re: Grab Handles
To install the grab handles in a truck that doesnt have them you need to replace the a pillar trim that is made to allow the grab handle bracket underneath. I did this in my 01 and here are the part numbers from the parts I got from Ford. These are in the dark graphite color. The brackets are not the same, they are specific to each side. Dont have a part number for the handles as I got those from an Explorer. I had a body shop rivet the brackets down. Also, the socket size for the grab handle screw is a 5.5 mm.

Re: Grab Handles
Keeping this alive as honestly i've no idea why Ford wouldn't make any kind of grab handle standard in their truck.
I have an '02 Edge, based on the pictures from the first page, i have the dark graphite interior.
Looks to be XL5Z1003599AAB for the drivers trim piece, around $30.
And F87Z10026A53AA for the drivers bracket, about $15 on Ebay.
I can't seem to find the appropriate handle though.
Other than removing the existing trim piece, what work is required of the A pillar itself? drilling/cutting etc?

Re: Grab Handles
OK I have some info on this as I have a set of handles I want to move from a 98 to a 2000 same interior color.
Since I have to put the trim from my non grab handle 00 to the grab handle 98 the brackets have to be removed. You can't attach a handle and make it look right without the trim and the brackets.
So here's the mess.
The bracket is attached to the A pillar with these 4 large pop rivets. I will have to grind or drill them out of the existing ranger and come up with some method of attachment to the A pillar. There are holes on the A pillar where the rivets go on the non grab handle vehicle.
SO if you are starting without a donor you would need right and left brackets, trim pieces, handles, screws, little plastic caps that go over the screw holes and 8 extremely large pop rivets. I will take pictures when I do mine.
Another problem is I'm headed into an explorer OHC install also and the brackets go where the wires should. Alternate wire routing needed or no OHC.

Re: Grab Handles
Wires will still go in the A pillar trim, i doubt very much you wouldn't have the space.
Are you sure there are holes already in place for the vehicles without the handles?
Please do post up your findings and pictures etc, i really want just a drivers side handle, the roof handle works fine for the passenger side.

Re: Grab Handles
So I got some donor pics, I don't want to pull the cover off mine again till I actually work on it. Each time you pull it off it weakens the little plastic tabs that push in the metal clips.
Here are the trim parts needed:
Here is the bracket you need. There are a left and right hand, available on e-bay and several other places:
This shows the huge rivets that Ford put in. I have no idea what I'm going to use instead but I'll come up with something:
I left the passenger side on just to take a pic. Yes I have the covers:

Re: Grab Handles
Alright, so i appreciate you not taking your cover off for weakening, but are you confirming that there are holes already in the A pillar to take the huge rivets from those handles?
