Default 1998 Ford Ranger Gauge Cluster?

My 1998 Rangers speedometer is starting to malfunction. It seems to stick at the bottom once in a while, and you need to smack the dash board to get it going. It only sticks once in a while, but I would like to replace it or fix it.

Does anyone sell Aftermarket gauge clusters? If I go junk yard hunting what years will work? I read through all the relevant threads I found, and I see that the 04+ digital gauges don't work.

Am I correct that anything from 98-03 will work? Also, do the Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer work? Same year range?

Thanks for the help, my google-fu is weak today.

Ranger 96-03, Explorer 96/97?-01?, Sport Trac til 02/03?. I am not real positive on the start and end dates for the Explorer and I don't know what year the Sport Trac was introduced but as long as it looks like our cluster it will work. The Sport Trac and Explorer Sport clusters will be white but they will still work. As for the Mountaineer, I have no clue on the years.

i read that it sticks if the needle is pressed too far down.. maybe take it apart and pull the needle away from the gauge a tiny bit. it may prevent it from sticking

Will an Automatic one work in my manual pickup? I kinda like the white one, but I won't have the money until after the holidays. Just trying to do my research.

That one has a lot less miles than mine. My truck is sitting at a little over 200K miles.

Yes. The part that has the gears for the automatic is a separate piece from the cluster. It just snaps in and snaps out. If you got an automatic cluster then all you would have to do is take out your blank piece and put it in the new cluster. Also you can just swap or roll your odometer to have it display the correct miles. I suggest swapping odometer. Its a lot easier and you have a way less chance of messing something up.

I won't have the money until after the holidays at best. Buying Christmas is killing me, and I just bought my wife a 2010 Ford Escape.

I think I am going to see If I can try to clean mine, it is pretty dusty inside from what I can see.

Thanks guys.

$85 is a lil high for a stock Ranger cluster. Just head over to eBay and you can get a stock cluster for about $50 shipped. Here is one for $50 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-02...Q5fAccessories
