Hurst Billet Plus made specifically for a Ford Ranger.

Can be found from Summitracing.com or jegs.com or even used from time to time on the other ranger forums. Cost new is about $220-250. Cost used can be anywhere from $100-200.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE mine!!

Not mine, but my brothers...

Mine back in the day...

Mine like a few months ago before my tcase and trans blew up...non-hurst ball.

They are easily upgradeable/make more comfortable with the use of an extention. Stock, I find them to be sort of a long reach. Add a bodylift on top of that, that ball is farrrr away. I made an extention on mine.

It decreases the throw of the shift making it easier to shift.

Also provides more positive engagement in gears. Plus you can make a bracket and get the ball exactly where you want it. Perfect comfortable ball location. something you cannot do with the stock shifter.

Click the vid? you can see how short the throws are.

There are some downsides to the Hurst.

1: Loud. Stock shifter is full of insulation which quiets down the transmission's meshing noises. Hurst doesn't. There's remedy's out there like stuffing the cupholder bezel full of insulation and adding rubber between the hurst base and the shift arm.

2: Eventual leaks. Stock trans vent is actually built into the shifter. Hurst doesn't have any sort of breather. Because there is no vent, the pressures in the case eventually release fluid out of the gaskets on the hurst. There's remedy's out there for it and the easiest simplist solution is simply taking a grinder and grinding a notch into the hurst plate that bolts to the top of the trans.

I suppose I'll make a thread sometime here with the hurst fixes.

What about the 2008 model with manual? I haven't been able to find any information on that Hurst shift being compatible with it.
