Default Rattling from aftermarket stereo kit

I see a lot of people on this site with the same kit (the one with the little pocket above the stereo)

Does anyone else have problems with it rattling really loud? I have to put my hand in the pocket and move the whole enclosure up and down a bit to get it to quiet down but sure enough after 5 minutes it's back.

I temporarily solved it by sticking the cigarette lighter thing in the pocket and it pushes the pocket up enough to prevent the rattling but this is by no means a permanant solution.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it? Plan on taking the dash apart this weekend to install some gauge overlays and my OHC so hopefully I can knock out the rattle at the same time.

make sure the metal fins are folded tight to hold it in place for the radio and install kit

I even custom cut some more tabs that would work better. The problem I had was my stereo sheet metal rectangle had all the metal tabs in all the wrong places. like only 2 worked properly. After the cuts, I ended up making more 'factory' cut tabs fit better via a hammer and screw driver. That puppy ain't comin out(unless the plastic adaptor fails which has happened before).

Do you have the correct adaptor in there? If you can move the adaptor up and down, there's a problem. Maybe try a different brand adaptor?

Never heard of anyone having a problem with it. Mine is fine. Came from Crutchfield.

I'm wondering if maybe it's not fully clipped in? I remember there were a couple tabs on mine that were a bish to get to clip in properly.

Just another possible angle, if you have the cubby below the radio turn it over so that the HU is not bouncing on the back of the cubby. If I remember correctly there should be a plastic bracket that attaches to the back of the HU to the back of the cubby for support. And as mentioned above, the metal tabs that lock the HU into the cradle are a pain to get full bent w/o breaking the plastic.

Just reread your post and saw that your cubby is above. Have you tried pushing the bezel into the slot harder to make sure the thing is completely locked into the dash?

yea it's completely locked and it's not the metal thing vibrating it's the actual plastic vibrating since it snaps in and isn't actually screwed. i got this kit from best buy and made sure it was the right one.

i guess it's not common enough to have a solution so i'll play around with it and see what i can do. thanks guys

I wonder if it would be worth it to get another one. They're pretty inexpensive, it's just a matter of whether or not that would actually solve the problem....

If you're still folowing this thread, I agree with Jay. The double din to single din adapter from Crutchfield is a one piece molded unit. If I remember correctly it's only about 15 dollars.

well pulled everything apart while installing the OHC and can't find the source of the rattle... i'm guessing it's just the crappy kit i got from best buy

gonna order the one off crutchfield (almost 30 shipped, not 15) and hopefully it doesn't rattle.. thanks guys
