illegal to repair, replace, or reset the odometer to show a different mileage reading than the actual mileage on the vehicle.

He is not gonna have it say anything other than what his truck currently has at the time of the swap.

im not going to get into an argument with you myke, im stating the point that any tampering with an odometer, criminal or otherwise, is still a crime.

Yes it is a crime if I took my odometer and rolled it backwards. Why would anyone roll their odometer forward to show more miles?

Taking a odometer out and swapping with another and showing the actual mileage of the one taken out is fine and legal.

I know that because he said he was rolling it to the correct mileage. If he fails to do so that is his responsibility not mine.

i dont get what the fuss is all about
i get both of ur guys point
it is ilegal to mess with the odo for the purpose of saling ur car, tahts fraud
and i understand that if my odo stops workin at 150xxx and replace it with a used one sayin 170xxx then im gonna roll taht sucker back to 150xxx
keep the old one for proof if u get trouble later
but really who gives a crap if its legal or not, the only time its gonna matter is if u go trying to screw someone over and u tell em u screwed em over
who is gonna really check if the odo is original or new or tampered
just my .02

OK I understand it is illegal to roll back miles to state lower miles when not true. No one is arguing that
So what would you do if your odometer stopped working?

wow....this reminds me of the cat converter wars...to remove or not..that is the question.

We all understand the rules...I plan on installing a tach cluster in my 94 ranger which has a 5 digit odometer (ford and their infinite wisdom of stick shift trucks and no tachs, but some of the automatic trucks had them...WTF?).

I found one from a 94 exploder stick shift which has a 6 digit odometer. The junkyard cluster reads 166k my truck has 228k (previous owner was helpful in keeping track how many times it rolled over. So in that situation I would adjust the junkyard cluster to reflect my actual mileage. 166k--228k is a big difference....Just my $0.02
