so a long while back i was wheeling and hit a bump that sent both my driver and passenger side airbags off, nothing on my exterior or anything got damaged just went off anyway im tired of looking ghetto when i give people rides do you know if an interior shop can do anything to patch it up? i dont want new bags being that i plan on doing more wheeling and dont want this to happen again, (specially since it burnt the hair off my hands cut my nose up and filled the cab with smoke) but also dont want to lose my cruise control with an aftermarket wheel

You can disable the airbags when you go wheeling. I can get you both airbags from the junkyard if you want them

can you just put the covers back on?

and from what i can see the steering wheel the cover is part of the airbag and the passenger side panel is split and half and pretty beat after shooting off haha

Both airbags should have plugs on your truck. Disconnect your negative battery terminal. Take both airbags out and unplug them. Tape the ends of the plugs so there isnt a threat of them contacting anything and reinstall them. I have taken my airbags out countless times without the threat of them going off. Just take your time and its simple

No problem, just be careful if your unsure of what you're doing. Like I said I have done a it alot so if you're unsure of anything you're doing, dont do it

if you put new airbags in dont forget about replacing the RCM...they fry when the bags go bang

Thx a lot. I ask cuz i'm presently replacing my dash in my 96 reg cab. The donor is a 99 that was totalled with both airbags deployed. I'm planning on using the bags from the 96. So u're saying i need to get this rcm thing as well?

I thought there was a fuse you could pull to disable the airbags? Pretty sure that was done both times I've been wheeling...
