Cruise control light replacement
Has anyone replaced bulbs for the cruise control cluster located on the steering wheel? I'd just like to know if its a quick process- something makes me a bit uneasy working on anything electrical so close to an airbag.

Re: Cruise control light replacement
You can replace them or put in LEDs.

Re: Cruise control light replacement
Thanks guys.
PB- looks cool. Are those blue leds or did you paint the pod similar to painting the back of an HVAC face plate?

Re: Cruise control light replacement
x2 on led's...
Ford wants you to buy the entire cruise pod ass'y. I haven't been able to find a replacement for just the bulbs either
...come to think about it, I need to get to work modding some cruise pods with led's

Re: Cruise control light replacement
Many apologies for bringing up an ancient subject, but........
My Cruise On/Off switch light died recently! Starting to wonder
what my choice(s) is/are? Do I have to do a complete replacement, or can I
replace bulbs? If I can, HOW do I go about changing light bulbs??
Information appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Cruise control light replacement
No replacement bulbs that I'm aware of.
99% of the ones from junkyards will have burned out lights too.
LED modding is about the only way to go that's cheaper than replacing the entire pods from the stealership.

Re: Cruise control light replacement
A few dumb questions now:
How do I access bulbs?
What is suggested replacement?
Approximate cost?
Thanks.

You'll need to remove the airbag to get access to the cruise pod screws.
Each pod will have a multi pin connector that needs to be removed too.
Once you have the pods out the top button section needs to be removed & the circuit boards inside will be visible & you'll be able to remove them. When you have the PCB's out, the old bulb holders will be held in place with a twist lock. Most times you'll need pliers to twist the bulb holder out.
Here's a video I did for replacing the circuit boards inside:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5BhYeu-nn0
The best way is to solder led's/resistors to the actual circuit board, placing them where they'll illuminate the buttons. Not an easy task & not something I recommend for the average person.
I can led mod the circuit boards where you can simply swap them out if that's something you'd be interested in... they'd run about $40+sh for the set of led modded PCB's provided you can send your old PCB's to me once you have the led modded ones installed.
Feel free to drop me a PM.
