Default OverHead Console Temp?

I installed an overhead console in my 01 ranger and the temperature guage is always too hot. Anyone else have this problem? I put the sensor on the framerail away from the engine like it was on the explorer I pulled it off of. Do the sensors read wrong sometimes and need replacing?

Temps sensor might be bad and you need a new one. Mine was reading in the twenty's when it was 95 out a couple weeks ago. Replaced it and works just fine.

when you replaced the sensor did you buy a new one, or just go to a wrecking yard and get another?

...and, did you connect the wire from the OHC to the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor), or (as some folks have done in the past) decide it "wasn't that important" ?

the temperature unit in the OHC uses that (VSS) information in conjunction with the temperature probe to determine what it should display...

How off is it? Mine has always been around 5 degrees hot, of course this is compared to the weather channel and I'm a good ways away from their closest weather station.

Autozone has them for 12.99

As turbo said did you connect the VSS wire?
