Default Headliner issues

well ive been taking the foam off my headliner and some of the substrait has come off with it and i was wondering if that would show up through the headliner i think the worst spot has a like.. an 1/8th an inch deep part missing

any tips for filling it in or making it not visible in the finished product?

once the board has become uneven, it's difficult to get it looking smooth again. the fiberboard headliners like that have to be cleaned very carefully to avoid this. depending on how big diameter these areas are, you can "float" the material over them. meaning not glue the two together. this generally works best on small areas. the other option is to buy double material and wrap it twice. this usually makes those spots a lot less noticeable. and trust me, if you don't think they are too bad looking, it will be magnified greatly by the new material.

if you wanted to come down here, i would be more than willing to help out. i don't know how to explain a good way to fix it. one idea you could do though to help out would be to throw a 3d design over the bad area. do some scallops, or flames, etc.

like this:
