nope...without the second key you have to completely reprogram the PATS for the 2 new keys without the 2nd original key youre pretty much SOL when it comes to programming new keys

If you got it from a Ford dealer, they should make the second key for free. Did for me anyway.

Walmart charges 60 a key. I got one a few weeks ago when I got my new truck. It works great. And if you just want one to open the door in case you lock your keys in, I am pretty sure you can just have a normal cheapo key made that will open the door but not start the truck.

when you got the walmart key made, did you have 2 already? that seems to be the problem! I only have one key.

you can have any cheap key made to unlock the doors, but it will not start the ignition, at work some of us have a spare key made in case we lock them in the truck and im not about to spend 60+ on a key for a vehicle thats not in my name.

well after contacting every locksmith within a 30 mile radius, I found out it was cheaper to take it to the Ford dealer, and they made me 2 more chip keys and one standard key, for lock out situations (129.95 + tax) and at least they washed my truck too. Go figure when the dealer is cheaper then any other local business. ( local Walmart was too small to do chip keys)Thanks for all the replys, at least I know I'm not crazy.

I have an 01 Ranger, how can you tell if the ignition key is the PATS kind? Are all 01's that way? Thanks.

01-2004 for sure and the 1998-2000 maybe also.

A PATS key will look like this.

A PATS key (left) next to a non PATS key (right)

thank god i don't have PATS

and there's no need to get a key made in case you lock yours in the truck, use the antenna. (GOOGLE IT INSTEAD OF ASKING FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HERE)

Yes, the cheapo would be a "mechanical" spare key. I always have a spare stashed, and wired, up under my truck somewhere. I never did get into many Ford pats keys when locksmithing, but maybe someone that has a "clone" machine can make you a copy of the one you have. Wouldn't hurt to check it out.

A Ford parts man told me I only needed one chipped key to program other ones. He told me to make sure I didn't lose both ( I had two chipped keys), because it would cost me $80. to make one without one.
