2004 ranger shifter knob

hey i have an '04 4.0L xlt fx4 with a five speed manual trans. I want to take the stock shift knob off, but there isnt an allen bolt like some have and it doesnt twist off either, i believe the 2004 model was grooved. Anybody have any ideas other than heating it up and pulling it off?

IIRC, the knob is glued. its best to used a heat gun and use it on the knob for a few mins and then pull off (but this is IIRC)
