Default how would i go about wiring this?

Hi, i would like to ask some of the wiring experts on here, and see if this would work. I want to wire up 4 10" LED Light strips that you can buy from walmart and autozone, but the question is how would i wire them so that once a door is opened, the 4 strips will illuminate?

This is just my strange theory i came up with but it is leaving me to believe that the dome light will probably fry due to a constant 12v source.

If this is wrong how would i go about wiring this, i know this answer has probably been answered numerous times.

Oh and how would i go about doing this on a 98 explorer as well? should it be relatively the same?

Your right don't do that.
You would supply a relay (pin 30) with constant power (fused) and use the positive lead to your dome light after the door switch as a trigger to relay pin 86. Then you would power your lights through the relay by attaching them to relay pin 87.
then ground relay pin 85 and the lights to a chassis ground.
You won't be using pin 87a so insulate it.

ok, so its alot more confusing then i thought, i will probably just wire it normally through the dimmer switch. Thanks for the info!

Just get a 4 pin relay, you can get them at the same places. Dont wire it normally through the dimmer, the dimmer has something to do with your dash lights, you always put a relay on anything you attach to the headlamp or cab light circuits to prevent them from going out when going down the road.
But...

its not hard really.

you can get them at the same places you can get the lights. Look for foglamp kits, most aftermarket ones come with relays, around there there may be replacement ones, those will work.

yes, as long at the fuse supplying the power to them is big enough, and them being led's, you may not need more than a 3 or 5 amp.

And just ground the strips wherever you put them. No need to run a separate ground all the way back to the relay.

I only wire stuff like LED strips to my running/headlights because you only see them at night anyways

thanks guys, successfully wired up the LED strips on my buddies explorer, he chose green because he has a green interior.

up next is my ranger, i have the neutral grey interior, (as i think everyone does) so i will be putting two up front under the dash, and two underneath the rear of the front two seats.
